Lady Myfanwy Afrwydd

Myfanwy Afwyrdd was born an eldest daughter in the Deceangi tribe of Britain on the eastern shores of what would later be called Colywn Bay, North Wales.  Early in her adulthood the Legions of Rome came to Britain under the command of Gaius Paulius Seutonius.  His march across her tribal lands in 60 CE was intended to go destroy the stronghold of the Druids, the Isle of Mona (now called Anglesy), to break the Druid's power before putting down the Boudican revolt on the other side of the Island.  The Deceangi fought valiantly and many died, others were carted off into slavery.  Some of those who were sold went to various Lanistae, for training in one of the many ludus before being sent into the arena as a gladiator.  Or in Myfanwy's case, gladiatorix, though she didn't train in the rough world of the ludo, like the warrior women of her day, she trained instead at a collegia iuvenum in Pompeii.  In 78 CE she toured the Empire under the nom de guerre Dido, from Britain to Syria, Carthage to Colon, Alexandria to Iberia and back and beyond.  There had been other tours, but this was was significant, as it saved her from Vesuvius' eruption the next year.  Through all this travel, she picked up literacy, new skills and new recipes, taking advantage of the world of knowledge and wisdom laid before her.  This bloody career ended back in Britain, training young noble women in defense and gladiatorial combat in Londinium where her owner died.  In his will, he set her and several other slaves free, allowing her the ability to travel back to her homeland.   She's been putting her new found knowing to use in her home village along the estuary of the Gele River, to help deal with the hill forts the Romans have built to keep tabs on her troublesome tribe.

In the Society, Myfanwy Afwyrdd (called Myf, prounounced like Mev) is the apprentice of Mistress Tuathflaith ingen Nuadat (foremerly know as Teja, most often called Tyg), and has managed (only just) to narrow down her 'areas of focus' to Cooking, Illumination and Roman-Britain Studies.  However, there's very little in the world on the whole that Myf isn't interested in learning, most of which involves complicated maths formulae.  Though her proper persona is 1st CE Britain in the Roman Empire, she dabbles in many time periods and cultures that go beyond the scope of the SCA.  When her armour is together and her authorisation card is in order, she also fights as very proud member of the Shield Wall of Meridies.  Archery is a newish sort of passion, she shoots a handmade hickory Welsh longbow (often mistakenly called English, they stole it from us you know!) as often as possible, and is getting back into Live Weapons in a generalish sort of way.  As for bardic skills, only when other people have had enough of the brewer and vintner's arts to drink, Myf will occasionally sing the awful filks she writes, since she's got a voice that goes alright with a lot of beer.  She's hoping to make it known that if any real bards or musicians come to camp on a night she's cooking, she'll feed them in exchange for their music.  Additionally, she's a member of the Merdian Friar's Club, performing in all but one of the Roasts put on by the MFC, and is it's Scribe At Large.  Typically, Myf associates herself with the Shire of Sol Haven as her home group, though due to circumstance she doesn't get to be particularly active in the Shire at this time.

Out in the Really Real World(tm) Myf is the mother of two beautiful, fully grown purebred Geek daughters, one of which is starting her own life in the SCA.  To take up other parts of her time, she's an artist/crafter and vendor at Science Fiction, Fantasy and Steampunk conventions and events, because she can't find the inexpensive hobbies.  She has a long list of former jobs in her past that range from 'chef' to 'wallpaper store clerk' to 'field agent of the US Census Bureau' and more, which isn't all that interesting really.  She enjoys writing various sorts of Fiction, playing chess, puzzle games and RPGs, painting, art and learning, movies and other various forms of entertainment to help keep her overactive brain in check.  More than once she's been called a pedantic fount of generally useless knowledge (to which she smiles brightly and says 'Thank you!' in a somewhat annoying manner).  Add to this one Canine, one Feline, one Irish Gorilla (Loch), a growing passel of adopted family, and things get kind of full and beautifully complicated.

And yes, she spells honour like a Brit.  Amongst other things....

Loc and Myfs Personal camp.
