Household Heraldic Banner Project
At this past Fools war (2011), when we had set up the grand pavilion, (4th, 5th and 6th pics) and we placed the household banner behind the high tables. It looked nice there, but it seemed to be too small for such a large area. So we have decided to create a banner to fill that space as well as to be used for other times that we need to decorate a hall. Hence was born the Households next POEP (Project Of Epic Proportions).
My first inclination was to make a banner that would fill that entire wall, which would be 7 ft tall, and 18 ft wide. Bigger is always better, right? Even I quickly realized that was a bit on the large size, so I scaled down to 7ft tall by 12 ft long. I then found that the widest fabric I had access to was 5 ft wide, so we were then down to 5 by 12. Luckily, Isabella convinced me that 5 by 7 would be more proportionate so that is what we have settled upon. She is so smart.
The plan is for all of the members of household to paint the banner, not for a single person or a small group to do it. We desire this to be a group effort. To accomplish this we will be traveling from event to event with the banner, thereby allowing various household members to do their part. Our Out of Kingdom members will be sent an escutcheon made of the same fabric so that they may paint their coat of arms upon it and return it, so that we may applique it to the banner.
Our goal is to have the banner ready to hang in the hall by Panhandle Skirmishes which is only about three months away. Did I mention that this was a POEP? Check back often and see our progress.
More pictures, these are of us working on the banner at Tourney of the Foxes 2011.
And more pics of us working on it at the Banner Workshop day Sept 2011. We also worked on 2 pennon style banners, one displaying the household device and one displaying the Crowns Favor award that the Household holds.
